Valentines Week

Happy Valentines Week Everyone!!!

Of course we didn't do anything overly spectacular for Valentines Day, but I did receive a package from my family containing a whole ton of candy!!! It is always fun to receive something sweet to make your day 10x better.

We have a new investigator named Maria Penalosa. She is amazing! We have taught her Lesson 1 and 2 and had a little BOM lesson with her. We asked her if she would be baptized and all she said was that she can't say no yet. She still wants to learn more. She came to church with her daughter Celeste on Sunday and they really enjoyed it. I am really excited for her and her family.

About 2 weeks ago we helped a lady named Anne move out of her apartment. While we were there Hermana Killian was talking to a guy who was helping with the flooding situation in another apartment. His name is Miguel and he randomly came to church yesterday! Awesome right? He walked into the room and we were wondering who he was, when it clicked! We are setting up a lesson with him sometime this week.

Bladimir is doing OK. We don't know what to do with him! He hasn't come to church for a month. Ugh!

One cool thing that happened this week is that we found this really old lesson sheet for a woman named Aracely Martinez. We didn't think that she would still live where the address on the paper said because it was all the way back from 2008. We went to the apartment and it had a calling thing that we had to do. So I was looking through all the people who we could call in the apartment complex and there was a Martinez. So we called it. It went to voice mail, but it was Aracely! Cool right? Maybe we will be able to find her sometime. She did used to have a baptismal date.

This week the Samoan sisters who live in the same apartment complex as us had their car broken into! After they had finished a lesson they came out of the house. Their car looked fine, but when they hopped in and shut the doors the glass on the back windshield shattered. Someone had been trying to get into the car and I guess weakened the glass! So we have been driving them around all week! Also it has been raining so when we drop them off they have to walk to all of their appointments. I feel so bad for them. I hope they get their car back soon.

This week was our special sacrament meeting where we had the members invite their friends to church and we, the missionaries, would speak giving all four of the lessons in talks. I did The Gospel of Jesus Christ. We had written our talks on Wednesday, but on Saturday night I re-wrote it because I didn't like it. Then when Sacrament meeting started Elder Moran took 15 minutes to give his talk and Hermana Killian took 8. So it left me and Elder Freeman with 7 minutes. I felt really bad because I took 5. Elder Freeman got up there (The newest Elder, on his first transfer in the field) and gave a 2 minute talk! Such a trooper. The Sacrament meeting didn't go as well as we hoped in getting new investigators. Only 3 people brought friends. Hopefully something good will come out of it.

I just want to let you all know that I love serving the Lord with all of my heart. I am not perfect and there are days that I struggle, but the happy moments are totally worth the sad moments. I can't wait until I can experience someone being born again in the waters of baptism. I know that if I keep doing my part the Lord will bless me and the people I teach. My advice to all of you is to continue doing CPR (church, prayer, and reading your scriptures). Set a time to do all of these things. With out them we can lose our ways so much easier. These three things are the key to our Salvation.

I love you all! Thanks for being fabulous examples!

Short but Sweet...

Why hello there! It has been a long time! Not really, only a week, but
it feels like a long time!

This week has actually gone by really fast!

We started this week out by having a zone conference. It was 6 hours
long but really inspirational! Hermana Killian and I made a goal to be
more enthusiastic. We need to make the gospel exciting and not boring.

On Wednesday we helped a woman named Anne move out of her house. I am
not sure if I have talked about her before, but she has a ton of
stuff!!! All the Elders in our zone came to help at 10 in the morning
and all had left by 2, and we still had more than half to do! We
didn't think it would take more than 2 hours. We were totally wrong!!!
7 hours!!! We were so tired by the end of that! I am so glad we
weren't on the other end of that move.

We have a new investigator named Maria Penalosa. She is really
amazing! We taught her the restoration and she kept saying that she
loved it. I can't wait to go over there again this week and teach her
the plan of Salvation!

Bladimir is doing ok. He hasn't been keeping his commitments so he
isn't progressing anymore. We decided to give him a break and
hopefully he will realize what he needs to do if he wants to change
his life.

We were out finding and we went to this one house. All we were doing
is walking up to the door when someone opened it and a little Yorkie
came running out and started jumping and biting  my companion! All the
guy was doing was yelling, "Charlie!" Hermana Killian was bleeding on
her finger and leg. We hurried and left and got bandaids and
neosporan. She is ok. The wounds weren't that bad thankfully! I am
glad it was a yorkie and not a Rottweiler.

Right now we are baking cupcakes which is a lot of fun! Red velvet
cupcakes! For Valentine's Day!

I am always thinking and praying for y'all! Continue doing what is right!

Time of my Life

Hello everyone!!!
This week has been a pretty good week! We still have no baptisms to
announce, but as long as I am working hard to bring people into Christ
right?!

We have been doing service at a nursing home called The Webster House.
It is a lot of fun! I met a guy named Doug who grew up in New York!
Right by Palmyra and the Hill Cumorah! It was a lot of fun to sit down
and talk to him about that area. We also met a cute guy named Kirby.
He kept telling us how much he loved the mormons! He also played us
the heart and soul song on the piano, both hands! Hermana Killian
tried to learn it but couldn't.

We are helping a lady named Anne move out of her apartment. She is
pretty... interesting... she moves out on Wednesday so hopefully
things go smoothly and we won't get too stressed out. She keeps
calling us the Hansen and Killian moving company... I don't think we
are that great at packing boxes! :)

This week we learned how to make pupusas! That is a delicious meal
from El Salvador! They are so good! We also learned how to make
Mexican rice and chicken! Yum!!!

Lily is progressing really well! We taught her about the plan of
salvation this week. She is a smart little nine year old! The only
problem we are having right now is getting the family to church. I
hope we can get over that obstacle and re activate their family.

Bladimir is doing really well. He doesn't have a baptismal date
anymore for reasons I can't say, but he is progressing and will
hopefully have a baptismal date again soon :)

We have been praying this week about Boni. We are never able to get
into his house because he is a guy so we felt like we should give him
to the elders. I hope that he will still progress with them. He is an
amazing investigator!

Arturo received the priesthood yesterday! Por fin!!!! It has been over
two months since he has been baptized! It was a really great day.
Hermana Killian and I can't wait for him to be able to go and do
baptisms!

This week we made a list of potential investigators and have been
stopping by their houses. If they aren't home then we made a goal to
walk around the block. We found 2 new investigators this way! One is
named Angel and the other is Daniel! Daniel said that when he was
younger the missionaries would visit his home in Guatemala. He even
remembered the name of he Elder! He then asked us if we still read the
BOM, of course! I think he is going to be awesome!!!

I am having the time of my life serving the people here in San Jose! I
will write next week about all of the new adventures we make!

Fun Week

Hola a todos!

This week has been really fun!

The fun things:

We have started volunteering at a nursing home! They have people with alzheimer's. That is mostly all that I can say because of a clause that we had to sign. I helped with arts and crafts! We made chinese lanterns! The people are all so nice there and it made me happy to help!

At dinner last Tuesday I had asked about this dessert that we had eaten a couple weeks earlier just so that I could remember its name, then the next day the Hermano had bought some! Latinos are so awesome!!! By the way it is called Mochi (it is a japanese ice cream).

We had a missionary conference! It was really spiritual and uplifting! We got a new mission schedule which is pretty cool. We now plan in the mornings instead of the evenings! I love it! It means that I can go to bed an hour earlier! Also on P-day we only have a half an hour of studies and then the rest of the day is ours! They were really concerned about the health of their missionaries.

We are now teaching a part member family. We taught their daughter Lily about the restoration and they had taught her everything which is awesome! The only thing they didn't teach her was Joseph Smith's name! She started telling his story and she started it off with, "I think his name was Norman!" She is so cute! Norman Smith, our first prophet! The rest of the story was perfect!

Something interesting that happened this week was we went to dinner at a members house and we started to share a message about the BOM with her kids who are all under the age of 12 and one of their friends who was over. All of a sudden she started talking about the Law of Chastity... Hermana Killian and I looked over at each other with shock in our faces. We did not know what to do! That was really awkward! I was even more awkward when she turned to us and asked us to explain it in English so that they would understand better... So yaaaaa.....That happened.....

That is about it that happened this week. Our investigators are still progressing. They are all amazing and I love them!

Love you all too!
